Pierluigi Mancarella is a Reader in Future Energy Networks in the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at The University of Manchester, UK. He received his MSc and PhD degrees from the Politecnico di Torino, Italy and was a Visiting Researcher at NTNU in Trondheim, Norway, a Post-doc Research Fellow at the Politecnico di Torino and a research Associate at Imperial College London, UK. Pierluigi has been a Visiting Professor at Ecole Centrale de Lille, France and at the Universidad de Chile, Santiago, and a Visiting Researcher at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), Golden, Colorado.
Pierluigi’s areas of expertise and interests include: integration of low carbon technologies into power systems and distribution networks; technoeconomic and environmental modelling of integrated energy systems; planning of energy infrastructure under uncertainty; business models for smart technologies, distributed energy systems and microgrids; and risk and resilience assessment of future networks. He is author of several books and book chapters and over 200 research papers and reports. Pierluigi is the Chair of the Energy Working Group of the IEEE European Public Policy Initiative.
